Full Cast Audiobooks

About Full Cast Audiobooks

Full Cast Audiobooks records complete, unabridged public-domain classics with a full cast instead of a single reader, and shares them free on YouTube across four channels. This site is the library: one page per recording, with its cast, chapters and source edition.

Full-cast recordings have long been a luxury mostly kept for bestsellers. This library brings them to the classics.

How a recording is made

Every voice is created with modern voice-synthesis technology and designed for its character. Our voice-design process was tested and refined through blind listening tests before we recorded the library.

  1. A trusted edition. We start from a public-domain edition, for most books a Project Gutenberg eBook, and set aside the front matter and transcriber notes so only the story remains.
  2. Every line, its speaker. Each line of dialogue is attributed to the character who speaks it and checked by automated quality checks before release.
  3. A voice for every character. Each character's voice is designed, or chosen from our library of designed voices, to fit how the book describes them: their age, background, accent and temperament.
  4. One voice, start to finish. A character keeps the same voice across the whole book. The story itself is told by one of our house narrator voices, such as Hugh Ellery or Vera Wynn, or, in books told in the first person, by the narrating character's own voice.
  5. Easy listening. Every chapter is levelled to the same comfortable volume, and every video has chapter timestamps so you can pick up where you left off.

Public-domain sources

Every book is in the public domain in the United States. Each book page names its source edition and links to it.
